Five of the Fluffiest Dog Breeds
At Jazz’s Wonderland, we love puppies of all shapes and sizes. Round pugs and lean Great Danes all get along here, but there is a special place in our hearts for fluffy dogs. While long-haired and fluffy dogs can be more difficult to groom, their poofy coats are beautiful, soft, and incredibly photogenic.
Below are just a few of the fluffiest dog breeds, as well as tips to help owners keep their coats shiny and beautiful:
Huskies/Malamutes
Huskies and malamutes are similar breeds, both bred in Siberia to withstand the intense winter months. Because of their history as sled dogs, they have some of the thickest and fluffiest coats. Owners of these breeds all share one common experience – the shedding!
Pomeranians
Pomeranians are beloved lap dogs, often because their fluffy coat is too cute not to love. They look almost unrecognizable when wet, as shown by this viral Tiktok of a pomeranian pre- and post-bath.
Samoyeds
Samoyeds were originally bred thousands of years ago in Persia to be used as hunting and sledding dogs. Because of this, they were selected for their fluffy coats which make them instantly recognizable today. However, they are less commonly used for hunting and more commonly bought now because of their cute smiles.
Pekingese
Pekingese are known for two things – their intensely fluffy coats and their adorable smushed faces. They often look wider than they are tall because of their fur, with the exception of their adorable tails. While these dogs require intense grooming, they are worth it for their sweet dispositions and irresistible smushy faces.
Chow Chows
Chow Chows are massive dogs, not only because of their height but because of the fluff that makes them look much wider than they actually are. These dogs also have two extra teeth as opposed to the average dog's smile, which makes their grin especially cute.
Tips for Grooming Your Fluffy Dog
Brush daily - Fluffy dogs are often the most prolific shedders, so it's important to brush out their coats daily to remove excess hair. Not only will this be more comfortable for your dog, but it will reduce the lingering hairs on your couch and clothes.
Use a high-quality conditioner - Long-haired dogs need a more thorough bath routine to ensure their coats stay shiny and strong. In addition to a good shampooing, make sure to follow with conditioner to strengthen and smooth their coats.
Talk to your groomer about ideal haircuts - Double-coated dogs often should not have haircuts as they can damage their hair and cause health problems. However, some fluffy dogs absolutely need trims in order to keep their coat healthy and cool. Talk to your groomer about proper cuts for your pet to ensure they look good and are comfortable year-round.
