Cool Summer Treats for Dogs

Florida is challenging for many dog owners to raise their furry friends because of the intense heat and rainy seasons we experience. During this time of year, outdoor exercise for your pup may be limited. However, you’ll still want them to get their daily playtime in and need ways to keep them calm, cool and relaxed.

One of the best ways to ensure your dog is hydrated and safe in the summer heat is by preparing cooling snacks that will help regulate their body temperature. So if you want to treat your dog to a fantastic summertime snack, try one of these recipes:

Doggy Ice Cream

While ice cream can cause digestive problems for your pup, you can easily make your own by blending bananas, peanut butter, and plain yogurt and freezing overnight. These ingredients are healthy for your dog and will freeze into a soft-serve consistency.

Pupcicles

Give your dogs a pupsicle! Freeze chicken or beef broth into ice cubes and let them lick as they cool down. Be sure the broth doesn’t have garlic or onions. For a sweet popsicle lookalike, you can also freeze watermelon chunks.

Frozen Stuffed Kong

Kongs are one of the best-selling toys in the canine world because they are instantly engaging and great for frequent chewers. In the summer, you can fill your dog’s kong with canned dog food or even baby food and freeze it for a few hours to help it cool down.

These cool summer treats are some of our favorites at Jazz’s Wonderland! We like to make them for special occasions to give our daycare members a fun pleasure that keeps them cool and hydrated throughout the day for playtime. After a long day in the heat, it hits the spot!
